Miyoshi City is located in a northeastern region of Hiroshima Prefecture in a river basin surrounded by the foothills of the Chugoku Mountain. The city limits lie equidistant from the larger cities of Hiroshima and Fukuyama. Therefore, the city has long been an important link between the Seto Inland Sea and the Japan Sea, dating back from ancient times.
